Walder Announce Faster, More Efficient Bus Service On Manhattan's
East Side
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Department of Transportation Commissioner
Janette Sadik-Khan and Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jay H. Walder today announced
the start of construction on dedicated bus-only lanes - Select Bus
Service - on First and Second Avenues from 125th Street to Houston
Street, one of the slowest bus corridors in the city.

Announce Agreement to Help New York City Families in Shelters Save
Money for the Future
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Governor David A. Paterson, State Senator
Daniel Squadron and Assemblyman Keith Wright today announced an
agreement that will help families living in shelters plan for the
future. Beginning in September, money once designated for shelter
contributions as a component of the State’s income contribution
requirement, which applies to homeless households with earned income,
will be redirected into an interest bearing savings account.

and Creative Time Launch Key to the City Citywide Public Art Project

Mayor Bloomberg, Creative Time President and Artistic Director Anne
Pasternak and Artist Paul Ramírez Jonas today launched Key
to the City, a public art project starting this evening and lasting
through June 27. Key to the City reinvents the civic honor of bestowing
keys on heroes and dignitaries by offering New Yorkers and visitors
from around the world the opportunity to present a key to each other
that will unlock steel gates, padlocks, PO boxes, secret doors,
secret compartments, and even new experiences at more than 20 sites
across New York City's five boroughs, including at the Brooklyn
Museum, Freshkills Park and Gracie Mansion.

and Vice President Biden Mark Start of Brooklyn Bridge Rehabilitation
Project
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today joined Vice President Joe Biden
to mark the start of work on the Brooklyn Bridge rehabilitation
project, a $508 million project - supported by $30 million in American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds - that will bring the
nationally and locally landmarked bridge into a state of good repair
and improve traffic flow.

Emergency Management Commissioner Bruno and Fire Commissioner Cassano
Announce City to Help Build Community Emergency Response Team Program
in Haiti
Mayor Bloomberg, Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Commissioner
Bruno and Fire Department (FDNY) Commissioner Cassano today announced
that a 12-member FDNY, OEM and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
team will be sent to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to help build a local
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. During the two-week
deployment, the City's team will train up to 400 people in fire
safety, first aid, triage, strategies to combat civil unrest, light
search and rescue, public health, water safety, and disaster psychology.

and Central Amusement International Celebrate the Opening Weekend
of Luna Park at Coney Island
Mayor Bloomberg and Central Amusement International today celebrated
the opening of Luna Park at Coney Island - a new 3.1 acre amusement
park featuring 19 traditional and cutting-edge state-of-the-art
rides from Zamperla S.p.A, the renowned Italian designer and manufacturer
of amusement attractions. The first rides at Luna Park will open
this weekend, with the remaining rides to open in the coming days.

Presents FY 2011 Executive Budget
Mayor Bloomberg today presented a Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 Executive
Budget and an updated four-year financial plan. The Mayor outlined
a plan for a balanced budget that totals $62.9 billion with no tax
increases for New Yorkers. The FY 2011 Executive Budget is balanced
in large part by the rollover of $3.3 billion of surplus funds from
FY 2010, which was generated in large part through three years of
City budget cuts.
